Sustainable infrastructure company Black & Veatch and NarrativeWave, a California based software as a service analytics (SaaS) company, have signed an agreement to develop smart analytics solutions. The collaboration will accelerate the speed with which Black & Veatch’s European water and wastewater clients can deploy bespoke, smart data analytics tools across their asset base. The jointly developed tools will be deployed via Black & Veatch’s ECO-X digital ecosystem.

Enel’s US renewable subsidiary Enel Green Power North America Inc. and NarrativeWave, a US company specialized in Software-as-a-Service and Internet of Things, signed an agreement under which Enel Green Power North America will deploy NarrativeWave’s innovative predictive maintenance software to optimize field operations at its geothermal facilities. This is the first ever use of this technology in North America at geothermal plants with electrical submersible pumps.

Larger wind projects can benefit from operations and maintenance (O&M) costs up to 60% lower than smaller facilities in the 4 to 10-year age period and economies of scale will become more widespread in the coming years, Mike McNulty, co-author of IHS Markit's new O&M cost report, told New Energy Update.

The terms Big Data, Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Machine Learning (ML) are being used increasingly in articles and publications about energy - but what is the real intrinsic value customers are trying to achieve, and what are some of the specific types of analytics that can have a real impact on generating assets?

Makers of giant wind turbines are hoping that artificial intelligence can bring back some of the industry’s mojo. While developers have spent $1.1 trillion on new wind farms over the past dozen years -- helping transform the global energy landscape with renewable power -- more money is going into new solar systems these days. Also, governments are phasing out subsidies, including programs in the U.S. that have offered $22 billion in tax breaks to turbine projects in the past 15 years.

Digitally enhanced services for wind power could reduce operations and maintenance (O&M) costs as well as the levelised cost of energy (LCOE), consultancy Totaro & Associates believes. Prices could rise as digital services become more beneficial to renewable energy assets, the consultants state in the Renewable Energy Digitalization Innovation report.

While renewable energy companies have developed advanced applications to improve diagnosing anomalies on wind turbines, for example, most are still taking a “trip first, analyse later” approach, writes Benjamin Decio, CEO of analytics firm NarrativeWave.

Invenergy, North America’s largest independent, privately-held renewable energy company, and NarrativeWave, an Irvine-based Internet of Things software company, announced a three-year agreement. Invenergy will use NarrativeWave’s software to optimize its fleet of wind turbines and other renewable energy assets.
